Book Club Meeting

13 December 2024

One day in December

We had a very convivial meeting at the library this month as the library had provided tea, coffee and mince pies.

We discussed December's book, One Day in December, which was found to be disappointing by most, which is generous, given that at least two members of the group disliked it enough to not finish it.

Despite this we tried to find constructive and even positive comments and focused on the parts we liked about the book, for example when the female protagonist went travelling.

However, the general consensus was that the book was not at all well written, with bad language and poorly written scenes of intimacy. It was also not really about Christmas, or set at Christmas, which had been what we wanted for our December read.

Although some of us thought it was a poor copy of other novels, including David Nicholls' One Day, we did accept that younger readers might not agree, as the book has many positive reviews on the internet.

For our group this was a very forgettable love story.

The next book to be read will be "The Wind in the Willows" by Kenneth Grahame.

This will be discussed on Friday 10th January 2025.
